At about this time of year Barwick in Bloom would normally hold an open Annual General Meeting. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions imposed by the authorities this cannot be done.
The committee have therefore decided to issue this notice in lieu of a meeting.
It does not need us to point out that this has been a strange year. During the first “lock down” we decided to suspend all work. Subsequently one or two younger residents of the village kindly helped to clear some beds and keep things reasonably tidy.
All RHS In Bloom competitions were suspended. Summer bedding had to be cancelled as were all our coffee mornings, Open Gardens and our summer garden party which has had a massive negative impact on our fundraising ability.
We were able to run a virtual “Open Gardens” through this website with thanks to all who took part.
When we were able to start work again a great deal of tidying was completed and we succeeded in planting the winter/spring bedding. We also completed production of our calendar, copies of which are currently on sale in the Post Office or by contacting us through this web site.
In order to embrace current rules, we have again decided to suspend all work until the end of “lock down 2”.
Importantly our accounts have been duly completed to the end of August and independently audited. Going forward however, without the ability to hold our usual community-based fund-raising events, we are now very short of funds and will not easily be able to maintain our usual level of activity. We are however currently considering/investigating other routes and methods of keeping financially afloat which will, we believe, enable us to continue.
The officers of Barwick in Bloom have agreed to continue in post as have all committee members.
We would like to thank all our supporters financial and otherwise for their efforts in a very difficult time. If you have any comments or questions please contact us through this web site. We do very much appreciate the many kind comments which we receive for our efforts.
